Commissioning Service for the Twelfth Principal of PLC

Today was a joyful and historic day as we celebrated the commissioning of Mrs Cheryl Penberthy as the twelfth Principal of the Presbyterian Ladies’ College.

In a moving ceremony, the Rev Phillip Mercer, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, led the service. In attendance were representatives from every sector of the PLC Community. They vowed to support and encourage Cheryl in her important and challenging work as Principal.

The event showcased the College at its very best with the Pipes and Drums leading the official party; a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace” performed by the Junior School Harmony choir; warm and affirming speeches of congratulations led by the Chair of College Council, Rev Mark Chew and an uplifting performance by the String Quartet.

The formality of the occasion was followed by a surprise for Cheryl when, as she left the venue, she was met by the entire Junior School who lined her path to Wyselaskie Hall, cheering and joyfully waving flags they had decorated themselves to reflect this very special occasion. More surprises awaited Cheryl in the Hall where she received formal speeches of welcome from students and enjoyed the festive atmosphere.

Students, staff and guests were honoured to have played their part in acknowledging and celebrating this key moment in our College’s illustrious 146 year history.
