World-renowned cellist leads exclusive masterclass
On Friday 22 August, PLC had the privilege of welcoming world-renowned cellist Li-Wei Qin to the Performing Arts Centre for a special Cello Masterclass.
Two of our talented students, Olivia (Year 7) and Amy (Year 9), along with a cello student from Scotch College, performed advanced repertoire and received invaluable guidance and praise from this master musician.
We were also delighted to welcome Li-Wei’s mother, pianist En Pai Lin, who accompanied the students with grace and artistry. In a wonderful connection, both of Li-Wei’s parents are former teachers at PLC.
A two-time soloist at the BBC Proms in London’s Royal Albert Hall, Li-Wei has collaborated with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including all the BBC Symphony Orchestras, Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Orchestra Helsinki, Vienna Radio Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Osaka Philharmonic, China Philharmonic, as well as the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras.
Currently, Li-Wei is an internationally acclaimed performer and Professor at the Yong Siew Toh (YST) Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. He performs more than 40 concerts annually across the globe, with recent appearances including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra earlier this month.
Before joining the YST Conservatory, Li-Wei served as Professor of Cello at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and remains a Guest Professor at both the Shanghai and Central Conservatories of Music in China.
We sincerely thank Li-Wei Qin and En Pai Lin for sharing their artistry and insight in a masterclass that was truly inspiring and enriching for all who attended.
