2026 Australia Day Honours - Professor Anne Buist AO (1975)
The PLC community is delighted to congratulate Professor Anne Buist AO (1975) on her appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours, recognised for distinguished service to psychiatry and to advancing best practice in perinatal mental health research, treatment and education.
A leader in her field, Professor Buist has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for women and families. Through her academic leadership at the University of Melbourne, her clinical service at Austin Health and her involvement in national initiatives to improve screening and support for postnatal depression, her impact has been both far-reaching and deeply personal.
Her work has helped transform understanding of perinatal mental health across Australia. Professor Buist’s career reflects not only academic excellence, but profound compassion and advocacy, qualities that make her an extraordinary role model for our students.
Reflecting on her time at PLC, Professor Buist shared, “It was a long time ago that I was there as a girl, but I did return a few years ago to speak at a luncheon and last year for fifty years since graduation. The School has come a long way, though I thought it pretty impressive back then.”
