Life, learning and friendship

Life in Koorinya, PLC’s Boarding House, is full of energy, connection and opportunity. From the moment the day begins, boarders enjoy a warm, welcoming routine that balances study, friendship and fun. With everything a short walk away – classrooms, music studios, sports facilities and PLC’s beautiful gardens – each day is rich with variety and choice. Shared meals, study sessions, co-curricular activities and evening downtime create a strong sense of rhythm and belonging. Whether it’s early morning training, laughter over dinner or quiet time to unwind, every moment in the Boarding House is shaped by support, community and joy.

A day in the life of a PLC boarder

7am: Breakfast in the dining room

Every weekday morning starts with a healthy breakfast to fuel the day ahead. There are always so many nutritious food options to choose from. A quick chat with friends before gathering books and heading off to the day’s first class. On weekends, breakfast is more a more relaxed affair.

10.47am: Recess

Boarders can pop back to Koorinya at recess and enjoy a tempting selection of morning tea options.

12:50pm: Hot lunch

It's back to the dining room for a hot lunch and catch up on the day so far.

3.30pm: After school activities

Classes for the day are finished and after a healthy afternoon tea refuel and a quick check in with Boarding House staff, boarders are free until 6pm to pursue and enjoy their interests. From netball training to aquatics to band practice, or quiet time in the library, PLC provides boarders access to a range of world-class facilities and extra-curricular activities after school and on weekends. Or they can simply hang out with friends and unwind.

6pm: Dinner in the dining room

Comfy in casual clothes and ready to settle in, a boarder’s evening starts with a healthy, chef-prepared hot dinner. It’s time to seek out friends and dissect the day that was before starting prep (homework).

7pm: Prep time

Set study time each evening helps every boarder stay on top of her academic program. During this time, boarders complete their homework and can seek support for any schoolwork challenges.

8.30pm: Getting things done before lights out

During the evening, boarders might practice an instrument, join in activities with their boarding house family such as table tennis, puzzles and TV, or simply relax and unwind. Electronic devices are handed in before lights out at 10pm (9pm for Years 7 to 9).

Weekends: Free time, living life

Just like day students, boarders have the flexibility and freedom to structure their own weekends. Whether that’s making time for catching up with friends, a group shopping trip to the city or watching movies at the Boarding House, it’s all about creating a balance that matches each student’s passions and needs. Boarding staff are on hand to provide the girls with support, care, guidance and a warm, nurturing environment.
