A home at the heart of PLC
Koorinya, PLC’s Boarding House, is more than a place to stay – it's a vibrant, supportive community where up to 90 girls in Years 7 to 12 live, learn and grow together. Located in the heart of our picturesque Burwood campus, boarders are surrounded by support, friendship and opportunity. Whether from regional Victoria, interstate or overseas, every girl is warmly welcomed and quickly finds her place in a home that celebrates individuality, connection and shared experience.
A strong community
At PLC, we believe boarding should feel like family. Our experienced staff provide care and guidance around the clock, helping each girl feel supported and empowered. Through shared meals, routines, laughter and learning, boarders build independence, confidence and friendships that last long after graduation.

PLC Boarding FAQs
Do boarders share a room?
Girls in Years 7 to 9 may share rooms with other students. As they get older and develop independence, girls enjoy their own individual bedrooms in Years 10 to 12.
What happens on the weekends?
PLC’s boarding program offers a variety of weekend activities, but students also enjoy the freedom to plan their own time. Many take the opportunity to explore nearby suburbs – shopping, seeing a movie, or catching up with friends. Boarders can, with parental permission and approval from Boarding House staff, head out during designated times, giving them the chance to build independence and manage their own schedules. All students must sign out with Boarding House staff before leaving, ensuring a safe and well-supported balance between freedom and responsibility.
What are the meals like?
At PLC, meals are thoughtfully prepared in the Boarding House kitchen by our catering team, offering a variety of nutritious options that reflect both Western and Asian cuisines. The main evening meal typically includes two meat dishes, a vegetarian option, a selection of vegetables and salads and a dessert, with second helpings usually available.
Breakfast is served informally over an hour and typically features cereals, toast, yoghurt, fruit juice and a hot cooked option on weekdays.
Morning tea and lunch provide a range of choices including fresh fruit, savoury snacks and hot dishes. Individual dietary requirements are catered for.
Are there any technology protocols?
At PLC, boarders have internet access to the College’s network, designed to support their academic and personal development in line with the College’s ICT guidelines. Usage includes weekends and holidays, for entertainment and communicating with family.
Electronic devices including mobile phones, laptops and tablets are all acceptable, however students are expected to adhere to the College’s mobile devices policy. Electronic devices are handed in before lights out at 10pm (9pm for Years 7 to 9).
If I’m an international student, do I need a local contact?
PLC recommends that all boarders whose parents live outside Australia have a local support person. This individual will play a key role in your daughter’s life and is an important social contact and support outside the Boarding House.
The local contact person should be known and trusted by the parents. A local support person can help in many ways by:
- taking the student out for a meal or excursion
- helping with transport arrangements at the beginning and end of term, e.g. to/from the airport
- attending school functions, including Parent-Teacher interview evenings
- providing personal care/interest during times of illness
- being available for consultation regarding the student’s leave arrangements
PLC requests that the local contact person is over 21 years of age, has very good English skills, is easy to contact and communicate with and lives in Melbourne while the student is in the Boarding House.
What happens in the school holidays?
The Boarding House is closed during all term breaks. It opens one day before the commencement of term and closes one day after the final day of term to allow boarders to move in and out of the Boarding House.
Are birthdays and other special events celebrated?
Yes, absolutely! Each term, a combined birthday dinner is held to celebrate all the birthdays of boarders that term and is a highlight for the students. Each celebration has a theme, and the dining room is decorated accordingly. Additionally, other occasions such as International Week and National Boarding Week are marked with a themed dinner and decorations made by the students.
What if my daughter is sick? Or has medication needs?
Student health and wellbeing are top priorities. The Health Centre is staffed weekdays between 8am and 4.30pm by registered nurses who provide attentive care for illness, injury and ongoing medical needs.
Boarders always have access to medical support and all Boarding House staff are first aid trained. Our Health Centre nurses coordinate boarder medical appointments and store and administer any ongoing medications. Importantly, families are always kept informed about their daughter's health.
Additionally, there are nearby hospitals and medical centres. This comprehensive approach ensures each girl stays safe, healthy, and well-cared for throughout her time at PLC.
