From fitness and skill development to competitive success, PLC Aquatic Swim Club offers a clear pathway for swimmers of all ages and abilities. With expert coaching, a supportive team culture and access to outstanding facilities at the Joan Montgomery Centre, our program helps every swimmer build confidence, strength and a love of the sport — in and out of the pool.

Swim club & competitive pathway

At PLC Aquatic, our Swim Club offers a clear pathway from casual club swimming through to competitive swimming at a state and national level. The program is designed to support swimmers of all ages and abilities, whether they want to swim for fitness, improve technique, or pursue competitive goals.

Squad structure & progression

Bronze Squad - Learn to Train

Training focuses on developing and racing all four strokes, including consistent technique, fitness, skills and endurance, along with educating athletes on healthy lifestyle and training habits.

Silver Squad

Training towards qualifying for Metro and Victorian Championships. Education about the different energy systems and how to train them, while refining training and racing skill techniques.

Gold Squad (Competitive)

Victorian Championship qualified athletes training towards qualifying for Australian Championships. Training focuses on developing aerobic and anaerobic fitness, skills and stroke technique to prepare athletes to qualify for the Australian Championships.

Diamond Squad (National level)

The Diamond Squad focuses on training to compete. Committed athletes who have qualified for the Australian Championships and are aiming at qualifying for finals at these Championships. Training and racing focuses will shift to be focused on select races.

Training & environment

World-Class Facilities

Swimmers train in a new world-class facility featuring an eight lane 50m pool with Omega starting blocks, including a boom for 25m training.

Performance Spaces

A dedicated strength and conditioning room supports targeted physical development alongside pool training.

Advanced Technology

The program incorporates the latest technology, including large screens on pool deck for video analysis and performance feedback.

Coaching Approach

Our experienced and caring coaches focus on developing each athlete to be a swimmer for life, with training designed around the whole athlete, including stroke technique, fitness, race skills, recovery, mindset and thought control.

Strength & Conditioning

Our strength and conditioning program builds all-round physical development, focusing on strength, flexibility and core stability.

Competition opportunities

  • Structured competition calendar aligned with seasonal plans for all squad levels. From in-house meets to district level and progressing to state and national championships (including pool and open water opportunities).
  • All competitive swimmers must be registered with Swimming Victoria.
  • Coaches provide guidance on event selection, race strategies, and performance development.

This pathway ensures every swimmer can progress from casual club participation to high-performance competitive swimming, building both skill and confidence along the way.
