Learn to swim

At PLC Aquatic, we offer a full aquatic pathway to suit everyone - from beginners dipping their toes in the water, to squad swimmers chasing competitive goals. Our Learn-to-Swim program builds confidence, water safety and technique at every level.

Learn to swim & water safety

PLC Aquatic’s Learn-to-Swim program supports swimmers of all ages and abilities, from infants learning to familiarise themselves with water, through to adults and more advanced swimmers ready to join a squad. Lessons emphasise water safety, survival skills, stroke development, fitness, and fun.

Learn to swim levels

Level 1 – White

For children new to swimming, this level focuses on building water confidence. Swimmers learn to put their face in the water, float, kick, and become comfortable moving in shallow water.

Level 2 – Red

Swimmers can float independently on their front and back, kick on front and back (with or without aids), and begin learning freestyle and backstroke techniques.

Level 3 – Orange

At this stage, swimmers can torpedo at least 5 m without aids, swim 5 m freestyle without breathing assistance, backstroke 5 m with aid, and start learning the breaststroke kick.

Level 4 – Purple

Swimmers complete 7 m freestyle with side breathing and 7 m backstroke without aid. They develop breaststroke arm and leg coordination and gain confidence swimming in deeper water (up to 1.8 m).

Level 5 – Pink

Swimmers can swim approximately 12 m freestyle with bilateral breathing, 12 m backstroke, practice breaststroke arms, legs, and timing, perform 12 m dolphin kick, and swim independently in deep water.

Level 6 – Royal Blue

Swimmers can swim 25 m freestyle and backstroke, 15 m breaststroke with correct kick, start learning butterfly, and perform a lifesaving backstroke for 25 m.

Level 7 – Light Blue

Swimmers can swim 50 m freestyle and backstroke with correct starts, turns, and finishes, 25 m breaststroke with proper start and turn, and 10 m butterfly with fins.

Level 8 – Green

Swimmers can swim 75 m freestyle and backstroke (with starts, turns, and finishes), 50 m breaststroke, 15 m butterfly, and demonstrate correct turns for breaststroke and butterfly.
