Supporting the next generation of women in medicine
We are proud to congratulate Rita Liao (2023), the 2026 recipient of the Lamont Scholarship.
Currently studying a Bachelor of Medical Sciences and Doctor of Medicine at Monash University, Rita says the scholarship will make a meaningful difference during a demanding stage of her studies.
“The Lamont Scholarship provides meaningful assistance at a pivotal stage in my medical school training,” she said.
With hospital placements becoming an increasingly important part of medical training, the scholarship will help ease financial pressures and allow Rita to spend more time focusing on her studies and professional development.
It will also support opportunities beyond the classroom, including attending international research conferences to further her learning and broaden her experience in the medical field.
Reflecting on her time at PLC, Rita spoke warmly about the encouragement and support she received throughout her years at the College.
“I am deeply grateful for the generosity I received at PLC, not only in the form of academic scholarships but also through the commitment of staff members, whose generosity in both time and guidance have allowed students to excel in their studies,” she said.
Rita hopes to carry forward this same spirit of dedication and service into her future career as a physician, continuing the legacy of women making a meaningful impact in their communities.
Established in 1994 through a bequest from Annie Elizabeth Lamont, the Lamont Scholarship supports PLC Melbourne Old Collegians as they continue their post secondary studies and pursue their academic goals. Annie, along with her sister Jean and cousin Doris, were former students of PLC Perth.
