PLC Junior School Recognised as Victoria’s Leading Independent Primary School
By Melissa Voce, Head of Junior School
There is no single program, quick fix or educational trend behind PLC’s recent recognition as Victoria’s top independent primary school. Rather, it reflects something that has long defined the culture of learning at PLC Junior School: a deep and sustained commitment to educational excellence, purposeful teaching and the development of the whole child.
The recent acknowledgement, based on NAPLAN performance and broader indicators of school quality, affirms what PLC families and staff have known for many years - that exceptional outcomes are built through deliberate, evidence-informed practice over time.
Our teaching approach balances explicit instruction with rich opportunities for inquiry, creativity and critical thinking. Strong foundations in literacy and numeracy sit alongside experiences that encourage curiosity, collaboration and problem-solving. Through intentional curriculum design and evidence-based practice, our teachers know their students deeply and teach with precision and purpose.

Importantly, PLC’s success is not measured solely by academic outcomes. Our commitment to whole-child development is central to everything we do. Alongside academic growth, we intentionally nurture confidence, character, empathy, resilience and wellbeing, within a culture of warmth, encouragement and genuine care. We want our girls not only to excel academically, but to grow into capable, grounded young people who contribute positively to the world around them.
A defining strength of PLC is the partnership between home and school. We are privileged to work alongside families who deeply value education and who actively support their daughters’ learning journey. This shared commitment creates an environment where girls understand that learning matters and where high expectations are both supported and attainable.
These results are ultimately a reflection of an entire community - hardworking students, exceptional teachers and engaged families, united by a belief in the value of education and the opportunities it creates.
At PLC, excellence has never been about chasing trends. It has always been about purposeful practice, consistent high standards, strong community relationships and a belief that every girl can thrive in the right environment.
