Jessica Huang (2014)
For Old Collegian Jessica Huang (2014), her years at PLC shaped not only her education but the person she would become. Looking back, she holds countless memories from her time at the College, with her final year standing out as the most meaningful. Despite the increased academic pressure of Year 12, it remained her happiest year of schooling, a time marked by camaraderie, shared rituals and unwavering support.
Jessica remembers the quiet of campus during English SACs, when younger students had already left for the day and the Year 12s gathered with a shared sense of focus. Her cohort created their own traditions, planning outfits for the final week, sharing that familiar buzz of nervous energy outside Wyselaskie Hall before exams and constantly lifting one another up. She drew strength from being surrounded by bright, resilient young women who inspired her daily.
After graduating, Jessica completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne, followed by a Master of Translation and Interpreting. She often reflects on the influence of PLC’s international outlook, saying: “PLC’s inclusive and globally minded environment showed me that learning flourishes when students feel supported, challenged and connected across cultures.”
With that foundation, Jessica spent six rewarding years at PwC Melbourne as an accountant, including being selected for the PwC Traineeship Program. She still recalls the encouragement of her VCE Accounting teacher, Mr Tim Joyce, whose belief in her potential played an important role in her journey.
Eventually, Jessica felt drawn back to the international and intercultural space that first inspired her at PLC. Today, she works in the Global Engagement Division within the Office of International Affairs at National Taiwan University, cultivating partnerships across continents and creating opportunities for students to engage deeply with different cultures. Her work focuses on extending the university’s community beyond its physical campus and into a global network.
Jessica continues to draw on the warm, welcoming and internationally minded spirit she first experienced at PLC. She is grateful to now be helping build environments where students from all backgrounds can thrive, just as she did.
