It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Miss Joan Montgomery AM OBE, 5 February 2024, who was Principal of PLC from 1969-1985. During this time, she led the College with vision, dignity and compassion. She inspired generations of young women and staff through her humility, wisdom and commitment to providing the highest level of education for the students in her care. Joan, or Monty as she was affectionately known, nurtured those around her to bring out their best.

Joan was recognised as an outstanding leader and was a board member of many educational, medical and professional organisations. She was awarded an Order of the British Empire in 1975 and made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1986 for her services to education. She was inducted to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2004.

Her past students and staff remember Joan with affection for the inspiring role she had played in their lives. Forging new paths in many different fields throughout the world, her past students are her enormous legacy.
