PLC Chess are the Australian Champions for the 3rd Year in a Row!

During 1st to 2nd December 2018 PLC’s Chess Team represented Victoria in the Australian Schools Team Championship held in Adelaide.

The girls competed against other secondary state champions from across the nation and after two gruelling days, PLC emerged victorious with a perfect score of 20 out of 20 games, winning the Australian Schools Team Championship (Secondary Girls) for a third year in a row.

This equals the best result of any secondary girls’ school in the more than twenty-year history of the tournament.

It was a mighty effort by Cassandra. Jody, Clarice, Jaimee and Rachel. The girls demonstrated perseverance and commitment and approached all aspects of the tournament with focus, sportsmanship and maturity of character. They represented PLC with the utmost excellence and distinction.

PLC was also awarded the Graeme Gardiner Shield (for the second year in a row), being the highest scoring team in the entire tournament.

It is the first time in the history of the Australian Schools Teams Championships, that the State of Victoria has won all four divisions of the tournament - the Primary Open (Waverley Christian College), the Primary Girls (Glendal Primary), the Secondary Girls (PLC) and the Secondary Open (Melbourne High School).

Congratulations to the PLC chess team and to Mr. Peter Mansell (Chess Coordinator).
