Head of Pipes and Drums / Pipe Band Drum Tutor

PLC is a leading ELC to Year 12 Christian independent day and boarding school with a focus on the development of the whole person that includes an outstanding academic tradition, an international outlook and strong pastoral and co-curricular programs.

Each year over 700 students undertake tuition and participate in music ensembles including orchestras, wind bands, strings, stage and jazz bands and Pipes and Drums.

The College is seeking applications from experienced, engaging teachers of Pipes and Drums for a permanent opportunity commencing Term 1 2022 (or earlier if possible).

The Role

The Head of Pipes and Drums / Pipe Band Drum Tutor is a 0.8 FTE permanent role, reporting to the Director of Music and is an integral member of the Music Executive Team. 

The incumbent will lead and develop the Pipes and Drums program, ensuring a professional and consistent approach to students’ learning. 

This role is responsible for teaching group and individual classes in the Junior and Senior School (up to VCE / IB Diploma level), as well as taking part in the College’s co-curricular Music program.  

The successful applicant will demonstrate a high-level of ability in musical teaching from beginner to advanced level. 

The incumbent will have a thorough understanding of the pedagogical principals of both music education and, more specifically, the playing and teaching of Pipes and Drums. 

Expertise in Drums will be particularly well regarded.
