Heritage Gallery Manager

Founded in 1875, Presbyterian Ladies' College Melbourne is a leading ELC to Year 12 Christian independent day and boarding school, and is one of the oldest existing schools for girls in Australia with a rich history spanning more than 140 years.

As a mark of this legacy, our Heritage Centre preserves PLC's pioneering spirit and significant contribution of generations of Old Collegians and staff to our communities.

The Role

This is a unique and special opportunity for an individual to take ownership of preserving our College’s past, so that others can rediscover it, learn from it and celebrate it.

Ideally commencing in late May or early June, the Heritage Gallery Manager is a role that could be fulfilled as a flexible arrangement of 0.7 FTE through to full time, and we are open to negotiation on days and hours worked.

In this role, you will have overall responsibility for planning and managing the conservation, preservation, discovery and catalogue accession of archival materials, both physical and digital.

You will also oversee the Archive Technician and a small team of Old Collegian and current student volunteers.

Looking forward, you will also relish the opportunity to be an integral part of our project team who are bringing to life the College’s 150th celebration in 2025.

About You

You will have a passion for archives and history, and experience and knowledge of archival methods including preservation and the handling of rare and fragile artifacts.

Experience in digital technology as it relates to archives and special collections including Library software (AccessIT) will be important for this role.

The role would be well-suited to someone with a background in managing exhibitions, art galleries or similar ventures who is passionate about community engagement, the arts and collection innovations. Qualifications and/or experience in artifacts, preservation and archival collections would be an asset.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

All staff must commit to a culture that supports and embraces Child Safe Standards. The successful candidate will be required to hold and maintain a Working With Children Check (WWCC) for Employees.
