Last week, our Year 11 IB students conducted their Theory of Knowledge Exhibition as part of the Core components of their IB Diploma. The girls provided three sagaciously chosen objects to answer key knowledge questions like, ‘Who owns knowledge?’, ‘What counts as evidence?’ and ‘Are some things unknowable?’. During the day, they were visited by Senior School staff and the entire Year 9 cohort, who asked them questions and quizzed them on their chosen prompts and items. The girls performed superbly with enthusiasm, confidence and well primed intellect! A great success. Congratulations!

On Monday, a group of girls from Year 7 and Year 9 had the opportunity to explore the emerging Sports, Aquatic and Fitness Centre (SAFC). The visit included an engaging presentation by ADCO Constructions, emphasising the significant role of women in the industry and the diverse educational pathways and career options. Following this, the girls geared up with hard hats and vests for a guided tour of the construction site, where they asked numerous questions about the facility in the making.

PLC had the honour of hosting a truly inspirational event on Saturday featuring three outstanding Old Collegians. Hosted by Anna Svenson (Hall 2004), our guest speakers, Ash London (2004), Nat Edwards (2004) and Lisa Teh (2001) shared insights into their journeys towards success in the media industry. From navigating the complexities of the media world to strategies and tips for leveraging social media for personal and business branding, they left us truly inspired. One of the highlights was their candid discussion on overcoming challenges in a male-dominated industry.

Congratulations to Emily, Alexis, Destiny, Chloe and Sinasta in Year 8, who won prizes in the Melbourne University Mathematics and Statistics Research Competition. Emily, Destiny and Alexis won their award for their research on the amazing patterns created from number sequences generated by a particular subtraction algorithm, while Chloe and Sinasta researched how to find breakable and unbreakable prime numbers. Both teams presented their findings at an awards ceremony at Melbourne University.

Congratulations to the Year 5 students who performed at the recent ‘Evening of Short Plays’ in the Betty Caldwell Hall. Each student had an important role and speaking part in their class play which included ‘The Detectives of Strange Street’, ‘The Superpower Outage’, ‘The Rustle of the Trees’ and ‘The Olympic Story’. The students all performed brilliantly on the night in front of their families.

Last Friday night's PLC Foundation AGM was truly spectacular as we commemorated the year and warmly welcomed new Foundation members into our community. Attendees were treated to the delightful musical performances by our talented student string quartet and the staff jazz band. Foundation Members also shared in the vision for the new Sports, Aquatic and Fitness Centre as they were captivated by the progress video and photos showcasing the world-class facility due to open in 2025.

This week, a significant milestone was reached in the progress of the Sports, Aquatic and Fitness Centre. The tower crane was successfully installed and will assist with the ongoing construction of the facility which includes a 50-metre, eight-lane swimming pool, a learn to swim pool, diving towers and seating for 400 visitors. In addition, the centre will feature a gymnasium, a spin room, versatile spaces for activities such as aerobics, dance, relaxation, table tennis and more.

PLC mothers and their daughters gathered at the Annual Old Collegians' Mothers and Daughters Morning Tea to celebrate their shared history of a PLC education. Together with the Acting Principal, Lisa Saffin and Old Collegians' Association President, Ailsa Wilson (1978), everyone enjoyed delicious treats whilst sharing stories, experiences and fond memories.

During perfect weather conditions yesterday, our Senior School girls made quite a splash at the House Swim and Dive Carnival. It was great to see the girls having so much fun whilst striving for their personal best and demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship. Congratulations to all the girls and a special commendation to Leven for emerging as the winners of the carnival. A huge thanks to all the brilliant staff for organising this exciting event.

Congratulations to Jenny, Jennifer and Shin Yi who won the Grand Final of the Debaters Association of Victoria Senior British Parliamentary Competition. Held at Caulfield Grammar School, the Grand Final included teams from Xavier College, St Catherine's School and Melbourne Grammar. Our PLC students were convincing in both their manner and method, showing a sophisticated control of the material and the structure required for the British Parliamentary style.

Wyselaskie Hall was filled with joy and laughter as we farewelled our Class of 2023 during today’s Senior School Leavers’ Assembly. The girls proudly received their awards and certificates, lit candles in a farewell procession and enjoyed a special morning tea with parents and staff. We wish all the girls a bright future ahead.

Last night we celebrated the wonderful talents of our girls during the launch of the Senior Art Exhibition. The Principal’s Foyer was filled with creativity and colour as guests walked through appreciating the artistic creations of our students. Congratulations to Alvis, Evan and Summer for receiving a PLC Senior Art Award presented by the PLC Foundation President, Diana Bevington. Well done to everyone involved.
