Outdoor Education

The sequential Outdoor Education Program begins with a Year 3 'teddy bears' sleep-over' and carries through to the Year 11 Leadership Camp and the Duke of Edinburgh program.

Varied experiences contribute to students developing a respect for the Australian bush, and the skills necessary to enjoy it in safety.
Teamwork and independence, a sense of fun and achievement, leadership skills and social and environmental awareness - these aims are central to the Outdoor Education program.

Year 7

The Year 7 program is run in conjunction with the Outdoor Education Group (OEG), a non profit organisation used extensively by Government and Independent schools. OEG has trained Outdoor Education staff and specialist skills staff and equipment to provide the students with a safe, structured learning experience.

The program is held at a fully catered base camp, with two nights spent in tents. It is held in Term 1 to allow girls to get to know each other in a different environment to the classroom. Five days of a multi activity experience provides an introduction to basic outdoor skills in canoeing, rafting, bushwalking, a rock journey, camping and cooking.

Girls are accompanied by PLC staff (generally form teachers and/or assistants) and by Year 10 girls who act in a leadership capacity. Emphasis is placed on developing responsibility and group awareness.

Year 8

The Year 8 program is run in conjunction with the Outdoor Education Group (OEG), a non profit organisation used extensively by Government and Independent schools. OEG has trained Outdoor Education staff and specialist skills staff and equipment to provide the students with a safe, structured learning experience.

This program is spent in a coastal environment where girls sleep in tents, cook in small groups and explore their surrounds as well as participating in activities such as bushwalking, canoeing, surfing, environmental sessions, etc.

Year 9

The Year 9 program is run in conjunction with the Outdoor Education Group (OEG), a non profit organisation used extensively by Government and Independent schools. OEG has trained Outdoor Education staff and specialist skills staff and equipment to provide the students with a safe, structured learning experience.

This is a "journey" style experience in a river environment and the program encourages team work, reflection and geographic observation.

Year 10

The year 10 camps are held in Term 4, after exams. Students choose from a large range of outdoor activities. Some are expeditions, some are base camping, some in accommodation.
Horse riding, cycling, aquatic activities - surfing, scuba diving, windsurfing, rafting, canoeing, climbing, walking. The girls self-cater with a fixed budget.

Year 11

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Girls from year 9 upwards are able to participate in the Duke of Edingurgh Award Scheme.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is open to students aged 14-25 years. There are three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level has 4 sections - Expedition, Skills, Physical Recreation and Service.
