Junior School

The Junior School curriculum is based on the guidelines of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards and is open-ended to cater for individual differences, allowing students to be challenged and to aim high, confident that their goals can be pursued successfully through diligence in making the most of every opportunity.

The Junior School is staffed with class and specialist teachers who confer regularly on curriculum matters and student progress. Our capacity to give the girls individual or small group attention contributes significantly to their progress.

We have specialist teachers in the following areas: Music, Art, Drama, Dance, Physical Education, French, Library, Information and Communication Technology and Christian Education. Girls have access to iBook portable computers in the classroom and computers in the ICT Centre and Library. Our Individual Differences Department provides extension and support as required. Smartboard technology is currently used in Prep to Year 6 Classrooms. All year levels use the Aquatic Centre. Appropriate excursions and visits by guest artists and entertainers are arranged at all levels. Girls have opportunities to speak publicly in class and perform at assemblies, concerts and musicals.

All curriculum areas are inter-related and subjects are not seen in isolation. Mastery of the English language is vital to all future learning. Class and specialist teachers (and, we hope, parents) will provide an environment which is rich in language experiences. Curriculum details appropriate to each Year level are explained at a Curriculum Evening at the beginning of each year during a series of information nights conducted by class teachers.
