Thank you for your enquiry about scholarship entry to Presbyterian Ladies' College. Scholarships are available for entry in 2011 at Year 5 and all senior levels except Year 12. While ACER scholarship results and school reports/testimonials are all important in the award of Council scholarships and General Excellence scholarships where other factors are equal, the family's financial position may be considered.
Parents therefore should supply income information if it might be to their advantage.
Financial information is essential for the Alexander Wright Wales Scholarship and preferred for the Helen Hailes Memorial Scholarship which are awarded by Trustees outside the College. This information will be treated with strict confidentiality and eventually shredded.
The award of any scholarship may be withheld if applicants are not of the required standard. On receipt of a scholarship any concessions or bursaries already held by the student are cancelled or renegotiated.
Where two or more scholarships are held concurrently the value of those given by the College will be reduced so that the total value of scholarships held does not exceed the tuition and boarding fees charged. Any scholarship may be withdrawn if the student's achievements or attitude are considered unsatisfactory.
The Scholarship Examination
All final dates and details for Scholarships in 2010 will be confirmed on this website in January 2010.
Metropolitan candidates who are applying for more than one school through the ACER Examination, must sit the examination at the school of their first choice.
Country candidates may elect to sit at one of the country centres by prior arrangement. Overseas candidates once registered, will be contacted by ACER to arrange an examination venue.
Candidates are expected to be currently studying in the year prior to the entry level for which they are applying.
Girls sitting at Presbyterian Ladies' College should arrive at the school by 8.30am for entrance to the examination at 8.45am. Please note the school will not be open until 8am. Entry is via Gate 4 from Parer Street (Melways reference Map 60 K 5). On arrival, candidates should come to the Senior School Reception from where they will be directed to collect a name tag before being taken to the examination room.
Candidates need bring only two pencils, two pens and an eraser into the examination room. There will be a break during the morning when cordial and biscuits will be provided.
Parents are invited to a presentation by the Principal, Mrs Elaine Collin, at 8.45am in the Doris Daniel Theatre. This presentation will be followed by the opportunity to speak to senior staff.
The examination will finish at approximately 11.30am (Year 5 candidates) and 12 noon (Years 7 to 11 candidates) - parents should arrange to collect their daughters from Senior School Reception at this time. Again, please enter by Gate 4 (Parer Street).
A fee of $90 for each candidate covers entry for one or more of the scholarships available. ACER adds a surcharge for students who sit the examination overseas, making the fee for overseas students $300.
Once results are received from ACER in mid June, candidates short-listed for a scholarship are expected to attend an interview held during school hours. These have to be arranged at very short notice during the two weeks commencing Wednesday 10 June 2010.
If you apply to other schools outside the combined schools scholarship testing program please be aware that we cannot make any scholarship offers before the ACER results are available in mid June.
Once all scholarships have been finalised, all candidates will be sent a report on the academic testing. PLC is unable to provide feedback on music auditions.
